Poots family of Dromore County Down
« on: Saturday 12 January 19 15:30 GMT (UK) »
In the Ireland 1901 census Agnes Poots, born unknown was born about 1867 in Dromore. Her husband was Thomas but he appears to have deceased prior to 1901. Agnes had children, Margaret b about 1889, Robert b about 1892, William James born 1895 and David born 1898. David immigrated to South Africa and married in Cape Town. I have tried unsuccessfully to track down Thomas Poots, born probably 1864 to 1867. I was hoping to find out who his parents were?

Thomas Poots and Agnes Martin married 3 April 1888- he was a shoemaker and his father William Poots was also a shoemaker. Bride and groom both of full age so 21 years or older.

Widow Eliza Poots died 1893 and son Thomas was informant so looks as though Thomas's parents were William & Eliza- https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1893/06013/4711591.pdf

David Poots, son of Thomas & Agnes, born 1898- note name & address of informant-

This might be Wiliam on Griffith's Valuation, since you know he was a shoemaker, not a farmer. This man is not renting any land:

Pootes, William T: Dromore - Hillsborough St or Gallows Street
house and small garden from Edward McCartney

Edit:
I just went back to the last post and looked. The informant Mary Martin was on Gallows Street. Of course that birth was some 30 years later, so it might not mean a lot, but who knows.

Thanks so much for the information. It has helped a lot and its much appreciated.
I am much more familiar with South African research, that why I found it difficult with finding Irish records.
