1939 register
« on: Saturday 12 January 19 16:59 GMT (UK) »
My ancestor seems to have two birth dates written on the 1939 register. Also something non standard is written in the marital status column. Anyone got any ideas?

Thank you.

There should be a date and some letters on the left hand side of the entry showing when the birth date was amended

ADDED the letters in the marital status column are probably what I was expecting to see on the left.  They are normally a district code for the area that did the alteration

Those two dates are 3/1 and 1/3. Don't know why they would both be there, rather than one crossed out (i.e. if this was a corrected entry).
BARTRAM - Nottingham, Derby, originally Beds (Stagsden)
PERFETT - St Pancras & Marylebone, Rugby, Nottingham
RADFORD - Nottinghamshire, also back & forth to Bury

Thank you rosie99, i hadn't realised that those three letter annotations were area codes and yes you would expect them to be in the left hand column. Also well done for finding his death date, someone has got it wrong so will have to do some digging.

And Rattus, yes you would expect the original to be crossed out if it is a correction.

Thank you again guys.

It's funny that the dates have been reversed,as the Americans do,1st March (they would put 3/1)

Oh yes hadn't thought of that, maybe that explains it.

Thank you.
