Looking through the OxFHS Marriage index - 1538-1837, I an find no marriage for John Hughes in that timescale, or anywhere near it, to a Mary.

However, there is a John HOWES(of Clanfield), that marries a Mary King @ Bampton. 12 June 1800.

I've looked at variations of Hughes, Hughs, Hews, Hows, House.
