Confirmation of Australian uniform - NSW Police force.
« on: Sunday 13 January 19 10:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi all. Can someone confirm that this is a NSW Police force uniform and possible year please. I think sometime in the 1860s. Maybe even his rank?
Thanks, Katharine.

Hi,

NSW police were and still are a civil police force and are not a miliitary force.   Have you contacted the Police Museum in Sydney CBD ....down near The Quay .... or at lrast that is where it was when I was in Sydney some months ago.

Oh, of course  ::). As you see I just posted a previous message and thought I'd post this one while I was on here. I am fairly certain its NSW Police and the sitter. Good suggestion to contact them. I will have a look for email on website. Thanks!

Just did a google search and found the boots and white pants indicate mounted police from 1863-1910. Still looks fairly early.

I was trying to find their website, but it doesn't come up now. My grandmothers half brother John Saunders ended up superintendant of it. The Site includes a photograph of him 1890's. I also have another photo of him.

Your photo looks like 1870's.
