Yesterday - I became so frustrated with transcription LAZINESS  not errors.. downright laziness --- Never mind saying that they are told to write what they see.. how about looking twice... just to make sure.

WE depend on there transcriptions.. and so if they see dog instead of cat we are supposed to presume that is correct.

I was not going to moan 'again' because  --- Yes I know they work hard etc.. but there really is an awful lot of errors lately.


The family I am working with at the moment   is very difficult due to the fact that the family was moved from 'homebase' to out of area when small as parents died and they became orphans.. I am nearly there with them.. so thats ok.. but what a struggle.. I was hoping to get to some present day descendants to pass over some documents I have acquired.

So yesterday - is over  - and I thought new start -

First search for my Sarah... and having no idea which or where or who she married.. it is hard.  I KNOW her sister was Lavinia !! so that is something to think about.

BUT due to the transcription I ignored the one shown.. until I decided to OPEN up the page and use my own eyes  (such as they are these days!)
What do I see

IDA LAVINA    not IDA LARMA

Now this does need more consideration ..

I would have read it as Lavinia  but I can see how it could have been read as Larma  :-\

The problem is that you start from the viewpoint of knowing that the name is Lavinia.

The transcriber did not.

Like Gadget, I can see how someone might read this as Larma. It could also be read as  Larina or Lavina. Careful comparison with the formation of the letter 'r' elsewhere on the page reveals that it's unlikely to be 'r', but we don't know how much time the transcriber is allowed to do this sort of detailed comparison  :-\

Yes I get that I knew to look for Lavinia...

and I really am going to try and be more patient today    .......... its difficult for a know it all moaning old g.

I have a couple of Lavinia and they are very rarely correctly transcribed

The moral is to always look at the original, never rely on a transcription if the original is available.

I have two sources which identify some new style houses in Victorian Hill as "Model Dwellings" and one as "Model Swellings". The latter is obviously odd, and looking at the original, it is beyond belief that some one misread it.

This is regarding my sad little orphans bless them we worked them on here some years back. 
They went to Bristol to the Muller House Orphanage..

 I have all the docs etc....

Thomas Patrick (baker) and his wife Suzanne from Clipston/e Northants died in 1852 within months of each other leaving 4 young children.

Sarah -  Lavernia/ Lavinia Sophia - and George  -

I have all the census even the dreadful 1861  where they are down by initials only.. :( 

and I have managed to follow them through --

as:

Sophia becoming Mrs Wright Southern and dying in Lancashire 1918  she has oodles of children but very very few of them have 'issue'  !!! still struggling with one or two of them.

Working now
George married Sarah Forman ?  and has 3 children  (maybe) Florence George and Nellie

Also Attempting to set a marriage to Sarah    1846 Clipstone (could be George Hill and or many others)   --
Lavinia went to work for a family called Major so have a bit on her.. 

due to the fluidity of their home base !!!! it is difficult to complete them..

and today I have no patience . what with one thing or the other.. so a few chillax tabs would not go amiss  .. no alcohol ... no cigarettes.. no drugs.. oh for g sake need to chill ..
