Child of Harry Elmer Brown and Mary Melissa Dolley
« on: Sunday 13 January 19 18:26 GMT (UK) »
Mary Melissa Dolley was born on 5 May 1893 in Providence, Rhode Island.  Her parents were Albert M. Dolley and Marian S. Babcock.

Between 1915 and 1920, Mary M. Dolley managed to get married three times:  1) Harry Elmer Brown [1915], 2) Richard Richmond [1918] and 3) Walter Francis Mowry [before 1920].

3)  date and place unknown but the marriage occurred before the 1920 census

Presumably she divorced both Brown and Richmond before finally winding up with Mowry.  I have traced her in later censuses with her third husband.  Brown also later remarried and I have traced him.  According to an online tree, Richmond died in 1924 but I haven't found any record of his death.

On his 1917 WWI draft registration, Harry Elmer Brown was living in Agawam, Massachusetts.  He claimed to be married with one child.  I presume that the wife was Mary Melissa Dolley.

It is their child that I wish to find.  The child would have been born between 1915 and 1917, probably in Massachusetts or Rhode Island.  In 1920, this child was not living with Mary M. Dolley Mowry.  However, there was a five-year-old son, Walter, living with Harry Elmer Brown and his second wife, Louise.   I am looking for Walter's birth and what became of him after 1920.

There are three public trees on Ancestry that contain Mary M. Dolley, so they might have info on her son Walter.  I don't have subscription access to obtain that info.

There is also a public tree for Walter Brown, b. 1915, with father Harry E.  However, it has Louise Mather Taylor as the mother.  Still, it might tell you what you want to know about Walter.

I assume this is the link for family ( Harry, wife Louise, son Walter) in the 1920 census. The link you provided is a repeat of one you already posted earlier in your post.

Perhaps there is more then one Harry Elmer Brown?

Thanks, RJ.  The good news is I don't have to look for Walter.  The bad news is that I have to find another Harry Elmer Brown.  Back to the drawing boards.

.

Something's fishy.  On the second marriage record for Mary M. Dolley it says this was her first marriage.

On the 1915 marriage record with Harry Elmer Brown, age 29, it lists his parents as William and Mary, and that he was born in Putnam CT.

In the 1900 census for that city, William E. and Mary A. Brown had several children, one being Harry E. b. Aug 1884, CT.  His siblings and their birth years:   Frank E. 1873, Ella L. 1974, Edith F. 1887, Mabel N. 1890, Willie 1880.

In the 1910 census, Putnam, William and Mary only have Frank and Ella with them.  I couldn't identify Harry in another household.

In the 1915 Rhode Island census (familysearch) I couldn't find Harry.  Mary Dolley was with the Babcock family.

In the 1920 and 1930 census I couldn't identify a Harry Brown b. about 1884, Connecticut.

Maybe other researchers will have better luck than I did.

Since Mary remarried in 1918, possibly Harry was dead by then.
