I thought he was the man who married Julia Byrnes in Adelaide in 1883... can't see a marriage to Fanny Lyall...

It seems we aren't alone in failing to find a marriage!

His children vs. his second wife Ruby in court over his will - seems like Ruby got most of it and part of her case was that the first marriage couldn't be found. The mother (Fanny / Fannie) died in 1896 and he married his second wife in 1919.

John Dunn m. Ruby Powell in 1919, NSW - might be worth seeing what this marriage reveals!

Thank you all for your replies.....I have now been told John DUNN's real name was DUNNEY and not
DUNET, DU-NAY, DUNNET or DENEY like the family first thought.....seems to me I am chasing a dead end.

Cheers

Cienna

Wow, what a great source of info, thank you so much wivenhoe, this is really going to help me....all I need now is the family in France..... I know now I should have been searching for John DUNNEY and not the other names he was supposed to have...maybe I won't find anything....especially now I have been told his mother was Mauritian Creole (Africa or Indian) not sure if his parents were married or he was the result of an affair.....will keep searching...

Thank you again.
Regards

Cienna.

I 've read for the third time the tables of Bordeaux from 1/01/1852 to 31/12/1872, absolutely no DUNNEY at all. He was not born in Bordeaux.

Thank you joger, for trying to help and all the time you have put into it......the family are still saying he was born in Bordeaux, I have let them know there is nothing to be found on him, I think now I will end the search on him....thank you again.

Kind Regards

Cienna.

Indeed , it is written in this article, which does not mean it is true.

In this article the year of his death is written 1984 (you know it is not true , since he died in 1934)
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/201411767?searchTerm=%22John%20George%20Michael%20Dunn%22

He may have come from the surroundings of Bordeaux , or may have been born anywhere else in France and took a boat in the port of Bordeaux , or may have already been John DUNN  (there are several John DUNN in the official list of passagers who emigrated to Australia).

The second marriage to Ruby in 1919 in NSW may have a more exact birthplace / parents names, it is the only document I can think of that is likely to give you more useful information at this point.

Of course, he could have been born in France to British parents and "Dunn" is the original name.
