Daingean
« on: Saturday 13 August 05 11:25 BST (UK) »
Hello. My mother's family all came from Daingean, Geishall and Rathfeston from at least the early 20th century to the late 1980's. Their name was Sheerin, 2 sisters and 5 brothers. Has anyone any information on this family? Thank you.

Hello poppyo,

The 1854 extracts of Griffith's Valuations of Offaly on John Hayes' website lists six people with the surname Sheerin but none in Daingean which was originally called Philipstown.

Thomas Sheerin, Gorteen, Geashill
Robert Sheerin, Main Street, Edenderry, Monasteroris
Thomas Sheerin, Ballinvally, Geashill
Patrick Sheerin, Gorteen, Geashill
Patrick Sheerin, Ballinvally, Geashill
Edward Sheerin, Cloncraff or Bloomhill, Clonmacnoise

Hello Christopher. That's kind of you but that was 2 years ago! Since then I have found out that the Sheerins originated in Westmeath, and came to Daingean after 1900 but thank you for your trouble.

I knew the Sheerins of Daingean. They lived about 2 miles from Daingean. They are both dead now

Hello. Can you tell me their names and where they lived, was it Rathfeston ? Do you live in Daingean? I would be very interested.

Hi Poppyo, my Great Grandmother Bridget Brickland nee Sheeran came from Mullaghrush, Daingean wondering if we are related in some way.

According to her marriage cert her fathers name was Denis Sheeran, I believe she had a brother called Thomas and a couple of step brothers and sisters.

Hello Debbie,
Just saw this online and my great grandmother is Bridget Brickland from Offaly. Wonder if we are related? My grandmother was Rose Brickland.
Thanks,
Joy
