Photo for dating, Richard or Richard's son from Glos?

I recently was given this picture of one of my ancestors.

I thought initially it was a photo, but when I did some restoration on the image it looks like it may have originally been a painting.

The person giving it to me had been told it was of Richard (1735-1821). I have doubts over this and think it is later than this.

Richard's son, William (1777-1835) is another candidate, but again, I think it may postdate him.

My preferred candidate is William's son, Joseph (1810-1872). The style of clothing, as best I can determine, looks 1860s.

All three lived in England (Gloucs., Wilts.) although Joseph spent a number of years in the West Indies.

Any thoughts to help confirm or correct my assumptions would be appreciated.

Hi Roger and welcome to rootschat...I would agree with 1860s and it looks like an over sketched enlargement...it's lovely.
