John Batterson French
« on: Monday 14 January 19 14:05 GMT (UK) »
John B French was born in 1894 to William and Jane French. In 1911 he was living with his parents and two sisters, Edith & Martha at Woodhouse Farm in Impington Cambridgeshire. The family lived there until 1925. John was back living at the farm in 1939 with the Chivers' Family. Can anyone see John or his sister Edith after 1925?  Did they emigrate? The 1939 register states that he is married (no wife living with him) and his occupation was given as .... Farmer retired from Canada.

Thank you both for that.

I found John (P) French married Ida M Johnstone 1924 - Northampton and John B French born Cambridge 1924.
How do I find his picture?  is it Snr or Jnr?

Ida and the children were not living with John B French in 1939 ..... I did find a Ida M French 1888, living in a nursing home in Foxton, nr Cambridge. !!! Couldn't find the children.

Thanks again

Bob

Hi Bob,

There is a possibility that John B French remarried -

John B FrenchRegistration
q1 1944, Cleveland, Yorkshire
Vol 9d Page 918
Spouse - Ethel Appleton

In 1962 and 1963 John can be found on the Canada Voters list -

John Batterson French
Occupation - Farmer
Location - Fulford Harbour, Nanaimo-Cowichan, The Islands, British Columbia, Canada
There is an Ethel French at the same location.

If John B French did marry Ethel (and it looks likely) did Ida die or did they separate.
I found a Ida M French,1888, died in 1943, Paddington .... could be her. I assume John & Ethel didn't have children ...When did Ethel die?

Thanks for looking.

Hi Bob.

Do you have access to Ances**y? If so it would be advisable to contact the owner of a public tree (iaincampbelldale) who has John Batterson French details/photo with two marriages. They may be able to answer your question regarding Ethel French as I've been unable to find further details of this lady.

I don't have Ancestry, but can access it at my library ... I will try there.

Ian C Dale was the Grandson of Edith M French (brother of John Batterson French) so should be an interesting contact if I can find him. As you suggest, Ancestry may be the answer.

Thanks
