I cannot find a likely vessel in Jan, Feb or March 1867 at the following live links (mainly NSW shipping)

I wonder if perhaps even the MCGREGOR was recorded (in newspapers etc) as  M'Gregor or MacGregor ... some search engines can be quite pedantic and others can be much more user friendly.

There's a steamer,  Helen McGregor in 1867, Melbourne to Sydney .... here : http://marinersandships.com.au/1867/05/007hel.htm

I wonder if that's also been across the Tasman Sea ?

Arrrived February 1867  :) to Tasmania  :)

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/8844381 26 Feb 1867 The Mercury.  Two Cabin passengers, and as per usual for that era, no mention of any steerage passengers.

Thanks everyone for all the help and ideas.

I can't see either the Helen McGregor or the Ellen McGregor reported on Papers Past as arriving at any New Zealand port.

I'm now confident that Alexander BRYSON was a passenger aboard the February 1867 voyage of the Helen McGregor from Glasgow to Launceston, Tasmania.

He must have taken a separate vessel to (probably) Dunedin, where he later attested for the Armed Constabulary.

Thanks again everyone for all the help.

Hi Alan,

Yes, see Reply#4. The ship's is incorrect. I will contact Auckland Libraries and advise them.

I already have doubts about the information in this database, specifically the shipping information.

Some months ago I contacted Auckland Libraries as they had added the ship Star Queen to the entry for Thomas Fellows WALTON, former 57th Regiment, and I wanted to know the original source since my research into this man suggested that no original source material was extant. The references they provided were of no assistance.
