Sheffield St Mary's burial record or headstone
« on: Tuesday 15 January 19 11:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am wondering if someone might be able to help me find the record of a burial or a headstone.

William Fry (1813-1870) was a silver engraver in Sheffied from 1837 and the patriach of quite a large family amongst whom were a number of silver engravers.

I can find no record of his burial on the Sheffield Indexers website although his wife and some of his children are there.

I have recently seen family papers in the National Library that suggest that William Fry was buried at St Mary's Sheffield.  I think it would be the Anglican church.  In the newspaper notice of his death it is stated that he died suddenly 16 January 1870 and was resident at Arundel Street.

I can't seem to find on-line access to burial records from St Mary's, although I may be looking in the wrong place. Perhaps someone on Rootschat might direct me to  a resource or have access themselves

Also, from what I know, he was not a poor man and his children did very well financially, and I would be surprised if they had not erected a headstone to his memory. I am hoping it might have survived.

Any help members might offer would be much appreciated

Kind Regards

Morris

NBI says that William, aged 57, is buried at St Mary, Sheffield - 19 January 1870.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
