Sorry I gave you the wrong information. Robert Dumble 1827 was the iligitimate son of Alexander Dumble and Rachel Clarke. All born Berwick on Tweed. He was a blacksmith.

So Robert's son, Alexander was correct with the first name - Fanny - but got the surname wrong?

Is this Robert with his family in 1941:

West End Street, Tweedmouth  (add- HO107/318/9/8/11)
William Dumble 58, fisherman
Deborah, 69
William, 19, blacksmith
Robert, 14
All born County

Is William,snr, Robert's grandfather?

In 1851, still in Tweedmouth, he's married to Isabella, (born Ireland) and they have a son, William, aged 1. He's recorded as a blacksmith.

Just trying to follow through to see if it is the correct death.

The 1861 shows the family names coming through in the children - William, Robert H, Alexander, Thomas, James, Deborah Ann.

I assume this is Robert's  baptism:

I think that son Alexander, informant on his 1884 death record(see previous posts), might have got muddled with the names of Robert's parents. I've seen quite a few mistakes on Scottish death certs.  He got Isabella Wilson correct though.

Alexander Dumble born to Alexander Dumble would have known his mothers name was Frances but did he know her maiden name? Was she Frances Thompson when she married Alexander Dumble but was she born Frances White?

When he filled in Robert Dumble (born 1825) death certificate he might not have know Rachel Clarke's name at all.

He might have just put in what he thought was right.

A death certificate is only as good as the informants memory

What year was Alexander Dumble the son of Alexander Dumble and Frances born?
What year was the last child of this couple born, I'd look in the GRO if that child was born late enough to have a mothers maiden name  registered and see what it is.

Whiteout - I'm not sure if you might have got confused -

Alexander Dumble, who was the informant on the death cert, was the son of Robert Dumble. This Alexander's mother was Isabella Wilson. He informed that Robert's mother was Fanny MS White and his father was Alexander Dumble.

Robert was baptised 11 Nov 1817, as the link in my previous post*
