Possible Baptism of John Dolvere Great Dunmow 1748-58
« on: Wednesday 16 January 19 15:22 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking ofor the baptism of John Dolvere (also Delvere, Dolvare) in Essex circa 1755.

John married Sarah Syvester in Hatfield Broad Oak, Essex in 1779 and the only other Dolveres I've found to date (on Freereg) are the family of John Delvere and Annabella Germain, who married in Great Dumow (which is about six miles from HBO) in 1748. They appear to have had four children: Ann in 1748, Anabella in 1758, Mary in 1762 and Susannah in 1765. Note that there is a ten year gap 1748-1758 which would fit with my estimated DOB for John.

I'd be grateful if someone could check the Great Dunmow parish records for that period for me.

Thanks, Steve.

Oh I forgot to mention that some time ago I did find another ten members of presumably the same family, but with the spelling Dolveer, in Great Waltham, which also six miles or so from Great Dunmow.  I suspect that one of those, John, born to John and Mary in 1723, is the husband of Annabella. John's name was altered from Dolby to Dolveer in the register.

The only one I can see that you are missing is Elizabeth Dolvare/Dolvare baptized 3 May 1752 at Great Dunmow.

The Essex Record Office has a marriage license bond for the marriage of John Dolvere to Annabella Jarman 1748.

Ref: D/AML 1748/15

Note the change of spelling

ADDED, the register states John Dolvere was of Banston and Annabella Germain of Great Dunmow.
Banston maybe Barnston

Thanks for your efforts amondg, much appreciated:

Well at least I was correct in that there was at least one missing baptism in that period, but not the one I was hoping for. Oh well...

Also interesting; it appears that the Dolvere family had a presence in several settlements in the area centred around Great Baddow with Barnston (I don't think that Banston exists) only a couple of miles away.

Time for a new SEAX subscription or a day at the ERO to trawl the surrounding parishes I think.

Thanks again,
Steve.

He’s not baptised in barnston. Will have a look at local parishes later.
Jamiesons, Martins and McGonigals of Coleraine, Londonderry
and
Cullens, Grahams and Challenors of Dublin county and city.

The marriage license bond is not viewable on SEAX not yet digitised you can request to see it in the search room or buy a copy of it.
