george spear breedlove

im doing research for my family and trying to understand what im looking at. my great grandfather George spear breedlove was born 1855 in Illinois and died 1907 in berthaud Colorado. I can find him and his father but the father seems to have   2 or 3 wives to go along with him .not sure if im looking at the same 1 im finding this on ancestry. wish there were pictures

it is but im finding 3 wives martha summers Elizabeth mauck and Catherine chance . and all the kids names run together  that's why im not sure if I have the right 1 . I do know George had a son Thomas neal who died in redding ca in 1971 and that's my grandfather

I see a Thomas Neal Breedlove who was born in Oklahoma in 27 June 1892 (some records say 1893 or 1894) and died in California in 1978.  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VPCM-Y2Y  There is a Thomas A. Breedlove who died in California in 1971, but that appears to be a different one.

Where are you getting the information about multiple possible wives for George's father?

There are no relationships stated on these censuses but I note that Martha age 22 and robert 62 are both born Indiana. Could it be that martha is a niece/granddaughter or a duaghter from an earlier marriage than the one to Catherine in 1852.

Despite the enormous disparity in age, Martha seems to be Robert Breedlove's wife.

There is clear continuity from one census to the next, with at least 14 children with three different wives.   But only one wife at a time.

And yes, Thomas Neal Breedlove died in 1978, not 1971, but the connection to this family is clear.
