The above was the eldest son of George Robertson and Margaret nee Henderson. At 1851 census he was living with his Robertson grandparents at 15 Walnut Grove, Kinfauns. However he disappears after that and I've established that he didn't marry Jane Barclay Brae, as that Robert's parents are different.

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Sandra, you've found the correct census for him at 1851 and the other one in 1881 showing his parents but no sign of him on the latter and the 1861 one may be him but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack, isn't it? Wish Scottish records were free!

The surname is quite common which doesn't help. Lots of Robert Robertson married between 1861/1871 - no way of knowing exactly if any are him. Shame.  :-\

Couldn't agree more.  Maybe someone will come along with an ancestry tree eventually and give you a clue to match him up - hopefully.
