Another Ancestry Feature?
« on: Thursday 17 January 19 18:11 GMT (UK) »
Clip 1 is from my tree on Ancestry accessed by clicking on the link shown in clip 2 which was from a search.

Any thoughts apart from the obvious every place must be in the USA?  :)

You have it in one.  Those of us who believe we live elsewhere in the world are delusional ;)

Technically the 1st entry is wrong in that the location is incomplete - There is, as the 2nd entry shows more than one Westminster and while it wrongly appears to default to that particular location in the  USA it could quite easily have referred to Canada or Australia or any of the many other Westminsters dotted around the world .

OK, I have now added London on the end so let us see what happens tomorrow.

I think you are saying that there is intelligent life form involved in place names on Ancestry.

btw, being English, the original entry was complete  ;)

Sync done & immediately updated, However still show the same place in the USA  :(

Does this mean I (we) have to add England or UK to every place name?

Quite simply - Yes! ;D

Never forget that Ancestry is an American company.

No, where appropriate you can add Scotland, Wales or Ireland or any of the other non "ancestry" countries.  ;D

I do agree with you that the presumption by the Ancestry programmers that default to the USA are incredibly annoying but then again we are dealing with a country where the majority are said to have never had a passport.

I have a terrible habit of putting Leics  or Nthnts or Wrks.. takes me to all kinds of odd places.. but then mostly my tree is just for me  and I KNOW   what it means.. if anyone else spots and asks I tell them.

IF you want to have some real fun..... look at your lifestory pages and see the map ..that it has entered you into...

NOW this map (if you have had your DNA thingymybob done)  is IMPORTANT  cos when you read your ethnicity chart that floats you all round the world and find Aunt Matilda floating in the pacific ocean ... it is down to the life story page..

I know this from experience ... and what I started to do .... but gave up on at the moment.. was to absolutely triple triple check that my Nthnts..were actually Northamptonshired...up and that way I got out of the pickle...

Hope that is comprehensible.. (doubt it but it just may hit a like mind :) )
