Steve,
My GGG Grandmother was Lucy Brindley b. 1794 Cheslyn Hay, she died in 1879 at Newbury.
Lucy Brindley married Thomas Wootton, he died and then she re-married to a Daniel New, who was a Hawker in Newbury.
So yes, your relations would be issue of Lucy Brindley's siblings.
I need more time to go through my tree on Ancestry, there is much to update, and this is where we are trying to find the connection with a DNA match.

We have found a 3rd cousin living in Broome, Western Australia, whom we think comes down the line of the Brindley/New family.    But where, is an absolute puzzle.

Cheers Jan

Hello Jan,
Yes, both Richmond sisters were born in Newbury; Hannah in 1857 and Mary Ann in 1863 , daughters of John Richmond and Jane Griffin (my 2xgreat grandparents).

Between them the Richmond sisters had 29 Brindley children! At this moment I'm trying to sort them out with the GRO index.

I've done a DNA test with Ancestry if that's any help
 best wishes
Steve

I've now sorted out the 29 Brindley children born to the two Richmond mothers.

Luckily all of Hannah's eleven were alive in 1911 according to her census return. Of Mary's 18, 6 had died by 1911. This has helped the sorting.

I would say that William born Q1 1895 was the son of Daniel and Mary Ann. He is actually listed (albeit as aged 3) as one of her children when she was prosecuted for child neglect in July 1900. She was in trouble again in Jan/Feb 1901. This might explain why William was in the workhouse, and two of his sisters were in homes training to be servants - obviously some intervention had taken place.

Thank you very much Steve, that's great information.  Will get my tree together now.
Just in the meantime, wondering what is your username for the matching, will check this out now.
We would have to be fairly distant, but I have a cousin who is on a higher level, she may have a match with you.

My pleasure, Jan.

Your query prompted me to have a tidy up of my tree.

Like you, I could not see William after 1901.

My Ancestry username is S J Miller - I'm not aware of any matches from all these Brindleys, but please shout if you spot anything.

Researching Newbury Brindleys could be a hobby in itself!

best wishes
Steve

Steve,
Thanks for that information.   You are absolutely right the Brindleys certainly could be a hobby in themselves, such a huge family.   We have several other members who were Fishmongers in Newbury.
Our New family were very involved in the old Inns scene, my Grandfather had the Old London Apprentice Inn, as did his Father Charles New, and Uncles had the Two Brewers, and of course the lovely Swan Inn out at Newtown (all from the Brindley family scene)

Will keep an eye out for any matches with you.
Regards
Jan

Hi Jan,
I am fairly new to family history research. My name was Wendy Brindley and I was born in Newbury. I have taken an Ancestry dna test and I am a match with Steve Miller (if that helps.) William Brindley, 1796 Cheslyn Hay or Burslem, Staffs is the first Brindley I have in Newbury. He married Charlotte Challis, a Newbury girl. I think his father was James Brindley and was born in Pelshall, Staffordshire 1771. However I cannot pin down his wife, its either Jane Baker or Sarah Higgs according to various ancestry members. It doesn't help that both women appear to have married 2 years apart The first child appears to have been born 1796 (William) so that doesn't help much as he is born after both marriage dates!

Jane Baker 12 Dec 1791  James Brindley Cheslyn Hay, Staffordshire
Sarah Higgs 16 July 1793 James Brindley 16 July Cheadle, Staffordshire.

On balance I think it is more likely to be Jane as Cheslyn Hay is only 4 miles away from Pelshall. However of course the Brindleys keep calling themselves the same name and it perfectly possible to have umpteen cousins all called James Brindley.  The question is do I have the right James Brindley?
I am aware of Brindley's going to Australia, for instance I remember my great Aunt Mary leaving when I was a small girl, she had married Arthur Lovelock but was widowed and she and their son,Graham emigrated to Australia. I believe Mary died within the last 10 years. I have also had some DNA links with other Brindleys who are in Austalia.

If I can be of help to you please let me know. My mother still lives in Newbury and I return often.

Best wishes,
Wendy

Wendy,
I seemed to have missed your posting, so am just touching base first of all.  I am continuing on with the research of our Brindley family, coming up with various family DNA matches and now trying to match them up.
My family line is with Lucy Brindley and was shown in 1815 Toomers census as being with James Brindley aged 18 years (1797)and William Brindley aged 22 years (1793).   Still need to confirm that these were Lucy's brothers.
We have a match with a Michelle Brindley who is a descendant of Robert Brindley & Elizabeth Wheate who are our Common Ancestors.
Can we connect up with you.  I have a DNA match with Kaylene Redward, BH (Bruce Hunt) and RH (Robert Hunt)
