Uploading to FTdna
« on: Friday 18 January 19 07:22 GMT (UK) »
I tested with Ancestry then downloaded raw data file, then tried to upload to FTdna. I have tried this 7 or 8 times, with the zip file and the unzipped txt file. I have downloaded from Ancestry a second time and tried the new raw data file both zipped and unzipped a couple of times. Every time I get an error message saying file is corrupted or not correct format.

Also tried the advice on this site

Still no luck

Any ideas how I can fix it, please?

I just uploaded from Ancestry to the FT Site with no problems, - but I have no idea why!

Don't unzip the raw DNA File from Ancestry, - just upload it as it is.

And if that doesn't work, - try Gadget's fix, as tried and tested by her.

Good Luck!
Romilly.

Just tried Gadget's fix. Still get same message with "fixed file". Tried zip version of Ancestry file and the txt file with the tool. This is the message I get.

"The specified file 'dna-data-2019-01-18_MTU0NzgwMDI0OS43NDky.zip' could not be uploaded. The file is an unsupported version or in a corrupt/malformed format. Please place an order for Family Finder or download the file and try again"

Ancestry "help" gave me this answer yesterday

"Thank you for contacting Ancestry in regard to uploading your DNA to a different site. Unfortunately we are not familiar with Family Tree DNA's requirements. However when you download your DNA it usualyy comes in a zip file. Instead of unzipping it we might suggest leaving it in it's original format. Otherwise their support site may have some advice of how to upload the raw DNA. We strive to make your experience with Ancestry a positive one and wish you continued success in your research."

Have you tried downloading the file again?  It could have got corrupted in the download.

Add - don't unzip.

Although this doesn't help your immediate problem, Lizzie, and others might have other experience, I've found that I have fewer matches in FTdna than the other sites.

The FTdna help people are very good though  so, if you can't resolve the upload problem, maybe you could ask them.

Yes I've downloaded the raw data file twice from Ancestry. The first version uploaded OK to Gedmatch. I didn't unzip it until I saw that mapmy23 also accepted a text file, so I tried that after I had no success with the zip file.

There have been several comments on the FTDNA Forums re the Ancestry Raw Data not downloading now, even using the map23 fix,so there would appear to be a problem at the moment.
