Missing from Census, Verulam St 1891?
« on: Friday 18 January 19 11:20 GMT (UK) »
I'm still chasing Thomas Collins and his Father Timothy

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=806549.msg6654351#msg6654351

I have found a Timothy Collins in the Electoral Register, 1890, living at 19 Verulam St.

This sounded worth following up, but I couldn't find him in the census.

I checked someone else living nearby; "George Cullingder" (nice, distinctive name, better to search for)

He's in the Electoral Reg for 1889, 1890, 1891, and 1892 (amongst others).

But I can't find him in the 1891 census.  ???

And yet there are very few pages missing from the 1891;
https://www.findmypast.co.uk/articles/census-for-england-wales-and-scotland-missing-pieces

Can anyone find me Verulam St in 1891?

I'm using Ancestry, which can't search by street name.

EDIT; this may not matter; since I had "my" Thomas Collins in the 1939 Register, I had a precise DOB.

The GRO Birth index gave me
COLLINS, THOMAS        SAPHAR      Order
GRO Reference: 1882  J Quarter in HOLBORN  Volume 01B  Page 676

And FreeBMD has
Marriages Jun 1873
Collins    Timothy         Holborn    1b   1057
SAPHOR    Eliza         Holborn    1b   1057

This looks very promising

So there are 3 names for 19 Veralum St on the register for 1890

Henry Jones and Thomas Lyons being the other 2 - can you look for either of those in 1891
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

There is a household headed by a 46 year old Eliza Collins at 19 Verulam Street in 1891.
Take a look at RG 12 / 220 / 102/ 5

Whereabouts ?

Two Verulam Streets in 1891 on FindMyPast - Toxteth & Holborn.

The Holborn entry has widow Eliza Collins living there in 1891 with children Ruth, Elizabeth, Eliza, John, Thomas & Catherine.

Is this the correct one?

Not only have you lovely people found 19 Verulam St, I think Eliza Collins was Née Saphor, and ties to my discovery in the BMD indices.

Thank you!

I know why I didn't find Thomas Collins in 1891.

The Ancestry transcript/index stops at John Collins (age 11), and simply omits the two younger children, Thomas (8 ) and Catherine (6) despite the scan being perfectly clear.  ???
