I'm trying to find out more about Robert Greenwood b. 1841 in Liverpool and living in Chester on 1871 census, particularly his parents, please.

ADDED I have checked original - Those older childrens ages 14 & 12 make the parents very young when they were born

In 1881 Chester there is a Robert Greenwood that fits that 1871 but with wife Sarah bn Wales and children Robert & Emily (not Emma) both bn Saltney

Thanks for this, yes, that's him on the 1871 census, but I don't seem to be able to find anything earlier.  i think his parents may have been Thomas and Isabella Greenwood, but i'm making a bit of an assumption , although the Liverpool/ Chester link is there and they are all anchor wrights.  My gr. gr. grandfather John Greenwood b. 1870 in Chester has Ann Greenwood as mother on his birth certificate, but was brought up by John (b. 1825 Liverpool and possibly Robert's brother/ Ann's uncle) and Mary.  Ann (also known as Hannah, we think) had a number of illegitimate children and all apart from my gr. gr. grandfather died.

Do you have 'Day' as a surname in your tree, otherwise I would suggest that is probably his fathers surname
