Help please MARGARET COLLIGAN
« on: Friday 18 January 19 12:33 GMT (UK) »
This is separate to another post I have...……..This MARGARET COLLIGAN I am looking for is in a family bible....she is supposedly born 1843, died 1873 but does not say where......now her siblings born after her were born in Lanarkshire, west Lothian and shotts. Her parents WILLIAM COLLIGAN and ANN/AGNES HALE were married in down Ireland in 1843 and Margaret had a sister born 1844 also in down...……..I have searched scotlands people and cannot find Margaret...….her family shows up in 1841 Scotland census, but Margaret, and sister born 1844 are not on the census.  her family stayed in Scotland after 1841, so I am at a loss as to where these two daughters went.....An older sister of the pair born in 1835 to their mother only, is with the family in 1841 also and I have traced her till the end...…..Any help finding what happened to MARGARET born 1843 and Maryanne born 1844 will be greatly appreciated...…...just to note their mothers surname I have found on certificates as, Hale, hall, Haly and Shannon...……….hoping someone might be able to help me,   kind regards from Heather

Have you checked out this death in 1873
COLLIGAN, MARGARET, Age 30  death 1873, Gros Ref 655/ 41 , Location Shotts

Another line of enquiry might be to see if the family ever applied for poor relief the details provided there can often throw up some genuine gems. I have also found some relatives where the adults moved to Scotland but the children remained in Ireland and only joining their parents much later

Don't think it's that death Falkyrn
Margaret Ellis 1873 Shotts ref/655/41
Margaret Colligan 1873 Shotts ref/655/41

Marriage for Francis Colligan 1868 Armadale
Spouse Margaret Ellis ref/662/2/5
Margaret Alace ref/662/2/5

This Francis looks like he is the son of William and Agnes Colligan

yes I am beginning to think so, as I just went and checked francis wife birth, she died the same day she gave birth and baby died too,  I think they have written her in wrong place in bible...…...makes sense as William and ann married in 1843 in the august and their daughter maryann was born 1844 in the sept...….there was no room for a Margaret...…...this problem solved...…...thank you everyone for your help   cheers from Heather

Hi. Agnes Hale is my great great grandmother. The eldest daughter, Esther Shannon being my great grandmother. I have Margaret Ellis (or Allace or even Aleis) born in Ireland "about" 1844. I also have a birth/ baptism for her husband Francis (given as John Francis) from Airdrie St Margaret's (RC) 19 Oct 1847.

The only birth I have found in Ireland is Mary Ann in 1844. I have always assumed that Mary Ann died in Ireland before the family crossed to Scotland, given that the 1840s is the height of the potato famine in Ireland.
