No Parents on Death Certificate - Edinburgh - HUTCHISON / HEYWOOD

Hi guys,
I found the death certificate of one of my ancestors, Mary Ann Hutchison, but no parents named on the certificate. Is it common for them not to be listed? I'm also having some trouble reading the cause of death so I have attached the document if anyone would like to have a look.

In my experience, it does happen as it depends on whether the informant (in this case the son-in-law) knew the details - there is no automatic check of the records to ensure the correct information.  Given that some people may not have known or even met their in-laws/grandparents, it will happen - my grandmother's mother isn't listed on her death certificate even about 20 years ago as the person registering her death couldn't remember the details.

Also, bear in mind that nowadays even if an informant did not know the parents' information themselves, there would often be a birth certificate or marriage certificate available to refer to.  As your relation died in 1868 and statutory registration only started in 1855, there may have been no paper record of her parents' names available to the family.

The cause of death is 'Disease of the Heart' with the duration of '1 year' underneath.

Thanks for the info, makes perfect sense There is suspected gypsy heritage on that branch of the tree (mary ann's granddaughter is called clementina and Hutchison is on the list of Gypsy surnames) so I've been hoping to find the occupation of Mary Ann's father in order to confirm it one way or the other. Oh well, back to the search!

There is a Bann 20/07/1828 in Edinburgh between James (policeman) and Mary.  Perhaps yours.

What does it say under date of death??

It says "Found 6h AM" .  Could mean that Mary passed away in her sleep and her death was discovered in the morning.  Below that is her address in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh.
