Coldstream Guards Uniform - James Noel Francis
« on: Saturday 19 January 19 14:08 GMT (UK) »
I apologise if I have duplicated this message, I have had network and PC problems this morning.

I am carrying out some research on behalf of a friend.  She has been to visit her father who had a copy of the attached photograph of his father James Noel Francis - DOB: 25 Dec 1912 Grimsby he died on the 30 Jan 1982.  Her father thinks James was in the Coldstream Guards and during the 1930's completed Ceremonial duties for the Royal Family hence why he remained in London and did not return to Grimsby. I am intrigued by the crown within the photograph could anyone identify the crown or was it ornate for the photo.  Also can anyone trace James's military record or any medals he may have earnt.  I know I am asking a lot but I am at a dead end.

The (King's) crown is part of the photographers props of patriotic emblems which in this case has a mirror centre.  It is similar to, but most definitely not the same as, the Royal coat of arms.  It was probably used for every soldier, whatever the regiment, who wanted something different (and may have regretted it on seeing the flash reflection!)

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
