stuck on ELIOT in Messing, Essex pre 1692
« on: Saturday 19 January 19 19:56 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I hope this is the right place to post this query.
I have two ancestors Robert/John Eliot (brothers) who were baptised as 'men grown' in 1692 and settled locally, family tradition has linked them to Scotland, but nothing else.
Where do I go from here?!! Is it really a dead end?!
Can anyone please help me?

Essex/Suffolk and further afield where linked - Partridge, Elliott, Beckwith, Lewsey, Owers, Appelton, Josselyn, Sewell, Lindsell and loads of others!

I wonder if Robert was baptised because he was going to get married?

There is a marriage record for a Robert Eliot in Messing to an Elz Harding in 1692.

This is what happened with my husband.  He had not been baptised as a child so before we could marry he had to be baptised.

I know this doesn't answer your question but it may explain the baptism as an adult.

Are there any wills for the family that may give you a clue to their origins?

Hi Girl guide,
Thanks for the reply :)
He did indeed marry the following day, but he was also baptised with his brother, possibly adds to the thought they maybe weren't local ???
Clutching at straws here!! ::)
No wills that I'm aware of, would be lovely tho'!
