Opinions Sought on Signature Similarities
« on: Sunday 20 January 19 14:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone give me an opinion whether these two signatures taken 20 years apart could be the same man.

Thankyou

I would think they are.  The first one has a lot of extra flowing lines which are not there n the second one, but the letters are formed the same way and the spacing is the same.

I'm not so sure.  But if the second one was by an elderly man then it is more likely they are one and the same person who signed the name.

Hi Trishanne

The letter 'P' is very distinctive and the documents were made in two different counties, he was born in one and worked in another. I've included another example, from his marriage bond which I thought looked different again  :-\

Your input is very helpful, thank you  :)

Hi Rhododendron

The gentleman was born 1744 and died between 1795-1798. So was in his fifties when the second signature was written

Thank you for your help.

The formation of the "P" and the way the h & n in John are consistently formed would convince me that the probability of all three signatures being written by the same high are quite high.

I also think it very likely that all three are the same hand.

The marriage bond shows how he forms the strange P, bringing the line in from the n of John, then down and into a loop, which makes a kind of b, before sweeping up the back and into the loop at the top.

You can see the same complex line in the top image of the first post.

He does the same in the bottom image of the first post but he's noticeably less precise about it.

To Carol, horselydown86,
Trishanne and Rhododendron,
Thank you all for your valuable opinions. I’ve been staring at these signatures for a day knowing in all probability they were from the same man.

With so many John Palmers about in London and Devon he’s lead my friend and I on a bit of a goose chase, I’m hopeful we may be able to get somewhere finally.

Thank you  :)

Pleased we could help Claire, I am convinced they are by the same hand I think it would be very hard to find another person who formed their letters like that.
