Carlisle census 1851 tables
« on: Sunday 20 January 19 21:36 GMT (UK) »
I have some people in my tree who were removed from the census due to sleeping in tents.

It says they are included in table b

Can anyone help what is table b? Is it possible to see table b? How were people who slept in tents included?

People in tents are normally treated the same as those living in houses, caravans, outbuildings etc.

Can you tell us who you were looking at - reference number as it may help us on the advice we can give in this instance

These aren't the people you're looking at, but below is an example of Table b from 1851.  It was used back in the office for statistical purposes.

OXFORDSHIRE / BERKSHIRE
Bullock, Cooper, Boler/Bowler, Wright, Robinson, Lee, Prior, Trinder, Newman, Walklin, Louch

Some people who slept in tents etc. may not have had their names recorded. They might have arrived in an area after the census enumerator had been round delivering household schedules and left before he returned to collect them.
There's a sub-section on RootsChat about traveller families.
Interesting about the section re rail travellers on Table b.
