How have you identified the mother of this Richard Lawrence WOOD to be Elizabeth who married Robert SIBLEY?

Seems the actual marriage record is not available for viewing online ... but as (I think) previously given in this thread >  from Church of England Banns (London) > Southwark - St John the Evangelist - Walworth >>

1876 - Robert SIBLEY - widower ... and Elizabeth WOOD, spinster.

In 1881 the stepson namely Richard WOOD aged 10 years, is present in the household of "Herbert" SIBLEY.  ["Herbert" is clearly shown on the census image - so not a transcription error - but all other info contained, points to the man being Robert SIBLEY. ]

Given earlier here, the baptism of Richard Lawrence WOOD (m. Elizabeth WOOD, spinster - no father's name given).   Added :  Refer Reply # 7 -- baptism at Colyton, Devon

ODD ... on census of 1881 and 1901, Richard (R.  Lawrence) WOOD's  birthplace is given as Somerset ... and Bristol ???

AND ... where is Elizabeth SIBLEY (nee WOOD) [and her younger children Albert, Walter, Ada and Rose] in 1891.   Has anyone found them ??    They journeyed from London to Wellington NZ in 1892 (see previous.)  Added:   Reply # 9 - arrived NZ 30/05/1892

Hi
Walter is my great grand father (although I never met him).  My father and his parents lived with Walter and his wife Amy Whittington for some time in ChCh.  My father recalls visiting Albert, Alfred and Ada.  He has no memory of the older sons or Richard.

I find it odd that Richard Wood is able to identify on his Marriage entry that his father as Richard Wood - Gentleman.  Does this indicate his father was living or deceased.  Or perhaps a gentleman who did not want an illegitimate child.
My thoughts regarding getting death certs for Charles Sibley and Richard Wood was to attempt to draw out who their respect parent was and therefore join the dots.  I realise this may not get me the results I am after...thoughts please!

Remember that people didn’t always tell the truth on a marriage certificate, an illegitimate child often made up the name and occupation of a father in order to look respectable.

There is a 1891 Census record possibly for Albert and Walter being at school - their ages seem to be pretty good. England Census Surrey, Sutton Distric SMD School for Boys and Girls (right at the bottom of the page).  Still nothing for their mother Elizabeth and sisters Ada and Rose though.

BDM NZ death
1940/27429   SIBLEY   Charles Henry   72Y

This Charles Henry SIBLEY is buried at Te Henui Cemetery, New Plymouth, with no information on the cemetery database.

Is this your Charles -
New Zealand Herald 6 Oct 1921
https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/NZH19211006.2.111?
...Charles SIBLEY, 59 years...larceny.......worked at sea...British Navy 15 years......

I think this Charles had no family.....wife...children....so there would not be much information on his death certificate.

I think that the death printout for Richard WOOD would be useful for your research. Daughter Ada Elizabeth is alive when he dies, she arrived in NZ as a child of 11 years, so old enough to have her own memories of leaving England and arriving in NZ. You know her parents names and their marriage details, so that would be a good indication of her knowledge of her parents, of which she is likely to be the informant.

Even if information is incorrect it can by very useful, and offer good clues.

After arrival in New Zealand...do you see any occasion of connection between the SIBLEY and WOOD families?

Above Charles SIBLEY - aged 59 years - born c. 1862 - a little older than the Charles being sought.
And article also said ... 7 awards for bravery at sea ... and that he had two previous convictions ...

Sounds very much like this guy ???

Charles James SIBLEY  ... many years at sea ... held 5 Royal Humane Society certificates ....  ??? ???

Hi everyone, thank you all so much for your research.  I am now in contact with a family member regarding Richard L Wood, although much mystery remains.
I will continue to look for a link with the Charles (outlined below).  I had previously had a quick look at these in paperspast but didn't follow them up - time to do so.
Any further information that anyone may stumble across at a later date would be well received.
Again many thanks for your time and expertise  :D
