INDIA Calcutta Scots Cemetery COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 22 January 19 21:49 GMT (UK) »
Sorry I added this query to another thread, but thought it might be better to put my query in its own post.

I have a grand aunt buried in the Calcutta Scots Cemetery (Elizabeth Davidson Brechin), the Stone says “Betty Taylor (married name) died 1st August 1938 E (perhaps it’s L). A.D.T”  I have no details other than the Stone, so if any one could tell me how I could start to find out why she was over there, and if possible what the acronym stands for please?

Thank you

Are you sure the year was 1938?  An Elizabeth Ann Davidson Taylor died on 1 August 1936 and was buried in the Scottish Cemetery, Calcutta on 2 August 1936, aged 39, described as "wife of Harry Taylor Tea Garden Manager, Anand Magh T. E. Upper Assam".

Thank you so much, the image I have looks like an 8, but could easily be an 6. That is much more detail than I knew previously.

Anyone have any idea about the acronym? Similarly as with the 6 rather than 8. The first initial could be an E or an L

If it's the 1936 burial, EADT would have been her initials.

It does look more like an 8 than a 6, doesn't it.  Could even be a mistake by the mason who carved the stone.  I've come across that before.
