Thanks for that.

As I found the Tasmanian ones very easily shortly  after I wondered.....hence my question re wanting specific info about being in that part of NZ at the particular time.

The Tasmanian records are worth a look. I will not do any more until OP lets us know what info she is seeking about them.

William Arthur DAVIS - (next-of-kin, Richard DAVIS - father) enlisted in Australian Army in 1917 :

You can find his details at the following link >

https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/DetailsReports/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcode=1897392&isAv=N

[Note:  Sometimes these links "time out".   If that should happen, then just go to the naa.gov.aus website > use the "name search facility" + "WW1" to bring up the file. ]

On one page in the Army file for William Arthur DAVIS (sorry can't remember the page number) there is a letter from his wife dated 1941 enquiring about an "army badge" (or somesuch ?)
The letter is signed -- "Olive V. DAVIS".

The wife of William Arthur DAVIS (Olive Veronica DAVIS) died in May 1944 - can only find a funeral notice at this stage (search ongoing).

NSW Death Index
1944
DAVIS - Olive Veronica
Parents:  Roger and Ann
Registered:  Sydney

Olive Veronica DAVIS was buried at Macquarie Park Cemetery, Sydney (Catholic section).  [It would seem that William Arthur is buried elsewhere ? ]

Also an Arthur William Davis with children born in Tasmania 1900, 1901 & 1904. One has Alexander as a middle name. Alexander is one of the names of  the father of a William Arthur Davis (richard Walter Alexander Davis and wife is Elizabeth Adams Davis.  William Arthur Davis is buried at the old Pioneer cemetery at Stanley in Tasmania afyer dying in 1939.

Hi shanreagh ... just for the record, the above was the "other" William Arthur DAVIS - born TAS, December 1880 - registered 1881 at Port Sorell  -- s/o John DAVIS and Mary (nee GLEGG) :  ;)

I believe the William Arthur Davis we are looking for is in fact the son of Richard Davis ( ie Richard Walter Alexander Davis) that you have referenced in the 1917 Army record. I also believe his mother was Elizabeth Adams Davis as mentioned in the 1935 death notice that you have also mentioned .

I am not sure where you get the names John DAVIS and Mary (nee GLEGG) from as I have not included them unless these are the parents of the Davis  buried at Stanley that you have not crossed out? I am puzzled.

Is it not possible that a person born in 1880s could be married twice? He would be in his 40s at the time of the marriage to Olive Ingram.
