William Worthington of Blackpool
« on: Wednesday 23 January 19 11:48 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I am trying to research the ancestor above. He was born in 1863 in Blackpool and I understand he bought some land off the Clifton Estate but what happened then I don't know. He was a plumber and died in 1946 in Blackpool.
Does anyone know how I can find out more please?

Sid -- you should also be able to find him on the 1939 Register with any wife (if she is still alive). This is available on both Find My Past and Ancestry.

You could order his Will, or the administration if there is no Will on line at the Government website 'Find a Will'.
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#calendar

It will cost £10 (or did) and you will receive notification by email when the Will is available to view on the Find a Will website.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Three of the four children

WORTHINGTON, HENRY  NOEL     BUTTON

WORTHINGTON, ROBERT       BUTTON

WORTHINGTON, CATHERINE       BUTTON

Can't seem to locate the fourth one.  Either missed off the register or maybe surname mis-transcribed.

Re the land sale.
There may be something in Lancashire Archives. Catalogue of Lancs. Archives, LANCAT is online. Lancashire Archives has the Clifton of Lytham collection containing documents dating from Cuthbert Clifton's purchase of the Manor of Lytham 400 years ago onwards.
If William Worthington built on the land he bought there may be a planning application. Some historic planning applications are in Lancashire Archives.
You could do a simple catalogue search for Worthington and ignore any results outside his lifespan.

Have you looked for him in local trades directories? Local newspapers for adverts about his business, report of his marriage and death.

Yes, he did build on the land after 1900 so I'll have a go at historic planning applications then....thank you!
