Groom's occupation?
« on: Wednesday 23 January 19 12:30 GMT (UK) »
Another Woodside Aberdeen wedding, this one from 1893. The groom is a Grocer's Barman?
In the 1891 census the groom is a van driver, 1901 census a barman and also a barman on his 1903 death certificate. A newspaper article from 1894 describes him as a grocer/merchant and his son's marriage certificate he is down as a grocer.
I am wondering if 'barman' in this instance is referring to some sort of delivery driver rather than someone who serves drinks in a PH

Grocer's Vanman
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

BumbleB, many thanks, I see it now. Wierd how long you can puzzle over possibilities and as soon as someone else provides the answer it becomes obvious :)

;D  However, I'm not surprised that you have trouble with images issued by SP - they are quite disgusting.   :-X

You can always ask SP to rescan an image for you. They are very helpful.

Sometimes it is the actual handwriting that is awful but we must remember that these are the original entries and not transcriptions.

Dundee records in the late 1800s are shocking as the handwriting is backhand  :'(
