Don't know whether you already know but you can search GRO online for mothers maiden name on births pre-1916

If you have ever ordered a copy cert you will have created a login id & password which is all you need to access.

Have you found son Frederick b 1895 in 1901?  He was a patient in the childrens hospital in Notts
