Marriage in Chigwell in 1813
« on: Friday 25 January 19 09:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi
if anyone has access to the original images of marriages in Chigwell for 1813 could they do a quick look-up for me please?

I have found a parish marriage on FindMyPast for Robert Duck and Mary Hinerwood in Chigwell 8 Aug 1813. As this is the only occurrence of the name Hinerwood that I can find, I would like to to check the bride's surname and if there is any extra information beyond just the names and date please?

Thanks
Helen

The bride made her mark but it is written the mark of Mary Hinewood any way I look at it there is no r in the surname.
Robert Duck also made his mark

Witnesses are Mary Ann Duck - made her mark and John Norris signed. John Norris may be the parish clerk as he signs 3 entries.

ADDED it is number 7 in the register.

You can see the BT here (faded image!)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9Q97-YSL3-98B?i=2074&cat=489613

Agree with amondg, definitely says Hinewood.
In the census Mary says she was born in Dagenham?
Possible perhaps on FamilySearch
Mary Anne Hinswood, bap 29 Nov 1789, Essex, to Abraham + Dorothy
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QLGB-4TGH

From microfilm 1472113, which includes Dagenham
Perhaps someone could look that up, see if it is Dagenham, and check spelling.
When did she die?
John

Can't find a marriage for Abraham and Dorothy.
What happened to her?
13 April 1795, Barking, an Abraham Hinewood, widower, married Elizabeth Holt, spinster.
He signed, she marked.

21 March 1796, baptism, possibly Dagenham, of Eliza Holt Hinewood

Was the mother already dead by then? Burial of Eliza Hinewood
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QLGB-Q7FP

And did the same Abraham Hinewood marry Catherine Lamb in 1798?

Many thanks guys, I knew another fresh pair of eyes would sort it!

Hinewood makes much more sense, there are several entries in Barking for that name!

As regards death, I haven't found a death as yet. I have found her in 1841, 1851 and 1861 in Barking but nothing after that. As she was 75 then, I suspect she died before 1871, but I can't prove it.

Hi
Strange about Mary's death.
There's a Mary Duckett registered March 1869, West Ham. Age 80
And a burial, 8 Feb 1869, Newham, of a Mary Ann Duck (free index on deceased online)
Could they be the same person?

If you can see the familysearch images

(it's also on the previous image!)

Many thanks John, I wasn't aware that Family Search had images of Great Ilford, and on browsing them I also found a burial for John McGregor - one of my brick walls, wow!

As a lot of my husband's family come from Barking and Ilford this is going to be a great resource for finding the people that aren't in my Barking disk.

On looking for Duck in that set I found George Hinewood Duck having a daughter baptised in 1849, and on looking at the census I found that he was born in Chigwell in about 1819, which would tie up with the George that I had already found in the census and had said he was born at Woodford Bridge and it provides further confirmation of the right marriage for his parents.

But still no Mary Ann Duck burial - but that would be too easy!
