Your Grandad  "was known to us as Michael Edw Arthur REIMS/RIIMS born 1883 died 1924 ....records in Canada USA but nothing from Europe/UK that pins it down so I beat the bushes looking for bits and pieces that come my wa"

"On a document on Ancestry he stated he arrived at Savannah, Georgia during Oct 1904 on the SS ONSLOW and yet he also stated he was resident from Jan 1904-1906"

" he left children aged 6 mths to 14 yrs at his death in 1924 and no one since has ever shown  any provable facts/documents per se"

Why are we looking for him arriving 1904/1905 on Canadian Passenger Lists?

Essentially, are you still trying to discover who your grandfather was and where he came from?

I see a lot or queries over the web over the years, including Rootschat,  which all boil down to the same thing:  Who was he really?

MARRIAGE 1909:
Michael Edward REIM, bachelor, full age,
son of the late Adrian REIM of England and Mary DUCLOS?? his wife
Married 1 Feb 1909 to: Elizabeth Duff McDEVITT (or McDAVITT) , spinster, full age
daughter of the late John McDEVITT of Belfast Ireland and Isabella ARMSTRONG, his wife.
The former of Quebec City and the latter of the City & District of Montreal
Signed: Michael Edward REIME
Signed: Elizabeth Duff McDEVITT
Witness: Charles McDEVITT?
Witness: Euphemia McDEVITT?

ISSUE:

Adrian Arthur Edward REIM 1911 Montreal  (Adrian)
John Brian Leonel REIM 1912 Montreal (Lionel)
Charles Garnett Neal REIM 1914 Montreal  (Neil)
James Earl Alistair REIM 1916 Montreal (Alister)
Mildred Isabella Elizabeth REIM 1917 Montreal  (Betty, or Isabel)
Meredith Alexander Garth REIM Montreal 1920 (Garth)
Paul Eric Allen REIM 1922 New London, New Hampshire (died 1923 Windsor Vermont)
Basil Michael Travers REIM 1924 Newport, New Hampshire

(The children's names in Brackets are the named he listed them as on the 1921 Examination of his identity when travelling across the border to US)

TRAVEL 1921
January 1921: Crossing Canada to US:
Michael REIMS 37, married, Butcher,
Nationality: Canadian
Race: English
Last residence: Montreal, Canada
Wife Elizabeth, 351 Victoria Street, Montreal
Destination; Old Orchard, Maine
Description; 5'4", Brown Hair, Blue Eyes, born Parydock, S Wales.

Examination 1921:
Michael REIMS, 37, b Parydock, Wales
Butcher & Grocer
Canadian Citize, English Race.
Wife Elizabeth, 351 Victoria Street, Montreal
Destination; Old Orchard, Maine
Going to Old Orchard Beach Maine with two children, Betty age 3 and Garth age 1
Landed at St John NB in Oct 1905 on SS ________.

A second Examination for him, travelling in 1923:

Restaurant Proprietor
Born Barry England
Again going to Old Orchard Maine
Wife still  Elizabeth, 351 Victoria Street, Montreal
Brother in Law John McDavitt
Last in US 1904, 1906, Savannah Georgia
Landed at Savannah Georgia in Oct 1904 on SS Onslow

Apparently, the whole family moved to Old Orchard, Maine?

The 1911 CENSUS Canada:
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1911/jpg/e002074322.jpg
Surname looks like RULAM or RUBAM - they're in lodgings.
Michael's data here, saying born Sep 1881 Wales, immigrated 1906

Do you have him (and/or wife) in 1921 Canada Census?

https://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=wrcushing3&id=P191
A bit of a bio. Interesting!
Has Michael as  born Somerset and Barry, Wales

Cheers

While I appreciate the information that is available for my grandfather there is nothing that documents
his birth/documents his parents with actual registrations./repeatedly he gives this information /nobody has found what he says to be true./Sources are only sources if they are proven in my way of thinking.
The Family seems to have  missed the Canada 1921 Census as they were moving to the USA in June of that year. . Grandad died in NewPort New Hampshire USA in 1924 October. Even his obituary which I had hoped who give information as was the case especially in those days gave no overseas family. I must congratulate you for finding the 1911 Quebec info as I had to locate it using the eldest son's first name and as mentioned Rulam or Rubam led me to that several years ago. and Yes, Ambly I/We are still trying to discover who grandad was and where he and his (my)family actually came from. (I can say I'm from the Moon but that doesnt make it so.) It is terribly frustrating.Thank you for your time.

p.s. As for the surname of Grdad's mother we were always told that it was Cushen which was transcribed as Cushing on his 1924 death registration.  All of his children were called by their 3rd christian name by the family.
