Seeking help to locate birth of Arthur Davis

I have Arthur Davis  in my family, supposedly born in Camberwell, Surrey, in the December quarter of 1858.

In the 1861 census, he is with parents Thomas and Elizabeth Davis, at 1 Clifton Place, Lambeth with an age of 3

In the 1871 census, he is with parents Thomas and Elizabeth Davis at 3 Victoria Street, Lambeth, with an age of 13, and an occupation of clerk.

In 1875, he marries, aged 21, as per the marriage certificate, with an address of Spring Gardens, Lambeth. There is no information regarding if they were of the parish.

In the 1881 census, he is with his second “wife”, at 20 Manor St, Southwark, aged 30.

In the 1891 census, he is with his second “wife”, at 246-248 Hackney Road Bethnal Green, aged 33!

In the 1901 census he is at 246-248 Hackney Road, Bethnal Green, aged 43, with his second “wife”

In the 1911 census, he is with his daughter and son in law at 10 Sirdar Road, Wood Green, aged 55.

The ONLY consistent thing I can find, is in all the census information, he states his birth place as Camberwell, Surrey.

I have checked the GRO for his birth, which gives his mothers maiden name as Hastings.

I have his parents as Thomas Davis, aged 40 at marriage, and his mother as Elizabeth Butler, aged 29 at marriage.

Any assistance in locating his birth information would be very gratefully received, as I have found him to be somewhat elusive.

It sounds as though you have already (provisionally at least) found his birth?

Have you checked Elizabeth Butler’s marital status when she married Thomas Davis?  At 29 she might have had a first marriage behind her, and been born Elizabeth Hastings?

Scratch that.  Now that I have looked at it, it’s clear you have alighted on the wrong birth registration.

His siblings in the 1861 census can be found at birth with mmn Pudney.

So: Arthur Davis, mmn Pudney, birth reg Sep qtr 1857 Lambeth 1d 330.

Why do you think the first marriage edit to Kate WARD ( I have looked at the certificate) is for your man?

Yes, the father's name is Thomas.  What else?
