Identifying soldiers from photos.
« on: Saturday 26 January 19 21:42 GMT (UK) »
I have inherited a few photos of soldiers from both WW1 and WW2.
Does anyone know of any books available which might help me to identify them by either their badges or uniforms please?
If I knew their regiments it would help me know who was who as I now know my father had not always put the correct name to all the photos. I don't really want to put all the photos online as there are quite a lot.

Katharine.

Why not post them on here one or two at a time requesting information on the regiments.

Thank you Carol I did think of putting the photos up on here but my grandson is interested and wanted to see if he could identify some himself. That's why I wondered if there were any identifying books.

Google WW1 British Army cap badges, and the same for WW2, there are lots of  images on line to help identification.

There are several books that deal with uniforms written by Mike Chappell, published by Wessex Military Publishing which may help - my guess is that your local library may have something too, or (if you have one nearby) one of the many military museums
