Marriage - Help!
« on: Sunday 27 January 19 13:38 GMT (UK) »
Hi wonder if anyone can help?  We're having problems trying to find any notice of my grandparents marriage.  Both are now deceased but they divorced acrimoniously many years ago.

All we have is the wedding photo of them, my granddad is wearing his army uniform and my Nan is wearing a suit.  On the back of the photo the photographers name has worn away but you can clearly see the word Belfast.  My grandparents were both in the army for a short time when they met, they were both from the NW of England. My dad, who is the eldest, was born in 1947 so we think they were married in 1946 - December 15th we think.

My Nan left my granddad and all 7 children , even though my dad was back in contact he knows very little and we have no paperwork anywhere.

Can anyone help as to where I'd even start?  I've searched on Ancestry and other sites but nothing.

Thank you.
Suzanne

Welcome to Rootschat!

The best way to start - yes, really! - is to post the names of your grandparents and any further details you have of them, like dates of birth and parents, and the expert researchers on here will have a look for you!

No names of living people is the only rule

Hi Suzanne

Welcome to Rootschat.

First comment is Reed and Read seem to be documented variations

Do you have names/etc  for all 7 children ?

Hi Suzb,

A warm welcome to Rootschat.

I may be confused here with the names and dates -- but on the 1939 Register there is an EV Kendrick born 30 May 1897 with a wife Laura M Kendrick born 20 May 1896 - living in the Station House in Ince and Elton? Cheshire. He is the station master.

I thought you were saying that Laura Morgan Reed (later Kendrick) was your Nan. Am I misunderstanding you? Please forgive me if I have.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Thank you all for your replies :-).

As you can tell I'm clearly a novice!

The names of the children are (I've put the married names of the females):

D Al Kendrick B: 1940's
E F B:1940's
J Kendrick B: 1940's
Lesley Collacott B: 4th October 1950 D: March 2013
N Blundell B: 1950's
K Griffiths B: 1950's
S Tinker B: 1950's

My nan is/was Kathleen, Laura Reed/Kendrick was the mother of my grandad.  The info about Elton is right as that's where they lived, Ince, Station all sound familiar.

Sorry to sound so sketchy, we have little information and most of the siblings don't really talk about it or have little memory of what happened.

Thank you so much again.

Suzanne :-)

Ernest V Kendrick Spouse:   Laura M Reed
Jul-Aug-Sep 1920   Atcham Shropshire  Volume Number:   6a Page Number:   1854

or is it the marriage of their son Edward you are looking for

Yes it's the marriage of their son Edward V Kendrick I'm looking for, he's my grandad.  It's his first marriage to my Nan (Kathleen Francis/Kendrick/Perry) that I'm looking for.  We think they were married in 1945/1946?  I think they separated around 1960?

Yes Edward remarried and lived in Poole until his death in 1988.

Suzanne :-)

Do you think they could have married in Belfast?
