Randolph McWILLIAM(S), born 1847, Duck Lane, Westminster
« on: Sunday 27 January 19 14:23 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Randolph McWILLIAM(S) refuses to be found, except for his convict record between April 1862 and October 1863 (he did not re-offend).   He states his mother was Mrs Hannah HALE, living at 4 St. Ormond Hill, Gt. Chapel Street, Broadway, Westminster, which was also his address and that he was employed as a Gardener.

I wonder if anyone can help?

Thank you,

BAC3

Mrs Hannah HALE, living at 4 St. Ormond Hill, Gt. Chapel Street, Broadway, Westminster

I wonder if that should be St Ermins Hill, which is close to Great Chapel Street and Broadway? I haven't checked the census yet.

Yes:   It could be allowing for transcription problems in the mid-19 century.   However, St. Ormond Hill is quoted twice in the documents.

Thank you heywood,

I looked for possible death of John McWILLIAM and Hannah re-marrying a HALE before 1861/1862, but sadly no details!!

John & Hannah had a son James McWilliams, mmn Gribble, in St Pancras on 14 Feb 1842 (baptised 27 Mar 1842).

He’s with them in 1861 aged 18.  I suggest “Francis” in 1851 might in fact be James in disguise (enumerator error, perhaps)?

I can’t see other children born to the marriage.  Hannah McWilliams seems to have ended up in the workhouse in Shoreditch by 1891, dying there in 1897.
