Ebenezer Lewis
« on: Monday 28 January 19 11:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Hope someone can help, found on familysearch, which is playing up for me today.

Ebenezer Lewis bapt 6 July 1782 in Llywel, Breconshire

Does any have access to original record to see if parents are given?

Also from familysearch, same person, (I think)

Ebenezer Lewis marriage banns 7 Aug 1808 in Llywel to Margaret Davies

Is there additional info on marriage, witness etc?

Have Ebenezer, a shoemaker, age 60 (1781) & family in 1841, Ystradgynlais, with wife Margaret, but know little about family earlier. He dies 1847 age 66. Children in 1841 are David c1820, Benjamin c1827, Mary c1830, Jane c1832.

Thinking the above maybe a connection.

Thanks for any help

Thanks, have been unable to find marriage, been looking for years. I do think it is a very good possible. Cannot find any bapts for any of the children, there must have been earlier children.

Thanks for looking, both appreciate it.

Cas

Update: Have just seen the bapts you have posted are they for Ebenezer & Margaret children?

Thank you both again, I think you have given me another generation, also a maiden name for Margaret!!

Trecastle is a village within Llwyel, with the family being shoemakers seems this was passed down. Benjamin was also a shoemaker.  They must have moved to Ystradgynlias pre 1811.

Cider drinker can you confirm the bapt for John 1809 & Ebenezer 1811 are for parents Ebenezer & Margaret if so, were did you find them?

Probably of no help whatsoever, but I used to live in Trecastle and Llywel is the parish church for that area.  I've been looking through my notes made when I was researching the history of the house we lived in there.  Most of the surnames in that area shown in my notes are Davies, Morgan, Nicholas, Jones, Powell.  The only Lewis family I can find in my notes is Thomas and Margaret Lewis of Llwyncelyn, who had a daughter, Magdalene Lewis, in 1828.  This doesn't, of course, mean that there aren't other Lewis families, it's just that they don't appear in my notes.
