Register of teachers?
« on: Monday 28 January 19 13:49 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone.

I am hoping to find a register of teachers for the Dublin area. I believe the person I am seeking, Peter KEANE, was born 1891 and died 1966. The death registration advises that he was a retired teacher at the time of his death, so I'm assuming he may have been teaching at some time between say the 1910s/1920s until perhaps the 1950s?

Is anyone able to help? Many thanks in advance.

What date did he die?
There is a death notice for a Peter Keane B.A  H.Dip.Ed died Feb 19 1966
late principal teacher of St.Brendan's N.S. Killester
to Holmpatrick Cemetery
no family mentioned.

In April of the same year there is a piece with the headline They Served Prison Sentences After the Rising
it gives a long list of names of people detained at some point after the 1916 rising,  a Peter Keane Strand St. teacher is listed among the Skerries names.

Sinann,

Thank you so much. I believe that is the Peter Keane I am looking for; I believe he died in 1966.  I have located several of his family at Holmpatrick Cemetery, but a search of Internment.net did not bring up Peter, and I did not realise that he had been buried there. Perhaps his grave has not been transcribed as yet.

Your information looks like it confirms my understanding that he did not marry or have children. I am just beginning Irish research so I am very much feeling my way.

May I please ask where you found the death notice and article about the uprising?

Many, many thanks again.

M.

Death notices Irish Press and Irish Independant both 21 Feb 1966
The uprising Drogheda Independant April 23 1966

Is it possible as a single man there was no one left to put his name on a headstone.
