Anna M Burn born 1778 Minto married Archibald Elliot
« on: Monday 28 January 19 16:41 GMT (UK) »
Good Afternoon Everyone

I am trying to find out marriage date and death dates for the above please.

I have Anna as the daughter of the Rev William Burn, she married Archibald and had 8 children :-
Archibald, Alexander, Margaret, Thomas, William, John, Martha and James.

In the 1851 Census she is a widow and living in Jedburgh aged 68 living in Castle Street.

I just do not seem to find any date of her death or that of Archibald.

Many Thanks for any help

No marriage on scotlandspeople.gov.uk but I did find most of the children’s names you mention, however mother noted as Moriah?

ARCHIBALD ELLIOT/MORIAH BURNS

SP records all Jedburgh
ELLIOT   MARGARET F   14/09/1806
ELLIOT   THOMAS   M   26/03/1808
ELLIOT   WILLIAM   M   06/03/1810
ELLIOT   JHN   M            01/12/1811
ELLIOT   MARTHA   F       29/10/1815

But an Anna M Elliott age 50 (could be 60 on the original) appears on the 1841 census in Jedburgh, with William & James & a Thomas age 11.
Her son Thomas is also on the census, I presume nearby, with his wife and daughter Anna..

No Archibald on census so I guess he died prior to Statutory Registration in 1855 and it looks likely that Anna died between 1851 & 1854.

I wonder if this is where the Moriah error originates from?

ANNA MARAIA BURN father WILLIAM BURN 1/07/1778 Minto.

Thank you Colin :)

The 1841 Census, definitely reads 50 and she is given as Anna M. I shall try searching using Moriah.

Thomas is living at 4 Abby Bridge with wife and 2 children.

I have just read the will of Rev William Burn, it gives his daughters name as Maria spouse of Archibald Elliot. The will is dated 1828 but it refers to a mutual deed of settlement dated 1819 and Archibald Elliot is to received the sum of £20.00, so do I assume that Archibald Elliot is still alive in 1828. The will also states " To our only son in life ", they had 3 sons so again I am assuming he is the only one alive at the time of the will.

Still searching

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Hi from checking, I find the children named the first daughters Anna or Anna Maria, which would follow the Scottish naming pattern  ;D
