Ayscough family Little Ponton and surrounding area
« on: Monday 28 January 19 20:57 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to work back on a branch of the Ayscough family

Thomas Ayscough married Frances ??, I've found 9 children baptised between 1735 and 1750 at Little Ponton but nothing for the marriage. I have found burial records for a Frances Ayscough at Little Ponton  1763 and for a John Ayscough there in 1783 which I think are my couple.

So trying to work out who Frances is and also back from John.

Do you mean John married Frances?

There is a possible misunderstood name for a John Askey who married Frances Goszan/Coszan in Sedgebrook, 7 miles away, on 19th June 1735.

I can't find anybody else with Frances's surname except for a Sarah marrying in the same year.

The first baptism in Little Ponton is 24th March 1735, the day before Lady Day, so 1736 by today's calendar. This would fit with the marriage in the previous year.

Yes I meant John.

From the baptisms Thomas looks to be the first child in 1735 followed by Elizabeth then  John and  Frances plus another 5 all at Little Ponton.

Interesting with that misunderstood name, it could be one of several, in my direct line I have Goulson family who were around Ropsley, Knipton, Woolsthorpe, Sedgebrook and Little Ponton. A descendant of John/Frances married into the Goulson line hence my interest. I think Goszan/Goulson is a bit of a stretch on the spelling but they could sound very alike so I'll bear that one in mind.

Hello
Possible baptism for John at Great Ponton
John Ayscough s of Richard and Anne 16 Sep 1716
Brother of same name  bapt 30 Aug 1715 buried 2  Sep 1716
Others
Elizabeth 2.4.1714 twin of Thomas
William 10.3.1717
Thomas 19.6.1720

Richard and Anne's first child Richard bapt at Harlaxton 5 Sep 1714 born 25 May 1714  mother's maiden name Thomas ?  It clashes with Thomas and Elizabeth so perhaps a problem with the year and the old /new calender.
Richard the son buried at Harlaxton 13.1.1719 mother Anne Thomas.

The marriage at Gt Ponton is to a Anne Bradly 9 May 1713 so perhaps it is  a different chap over at Harlaxton.

Anne a widow and housekeeper born 1686 buried 11.3.1751 at Great Ponton
Richard may have been buried Holbeach all Saints 11.2.1747 age 54 labourer. But it is quite a way.

Thanks for that

John and Frances appear to have had a number of children, based on dates, place and parents the following baptism look likely, note the names seem to match with the previous generations, possibly a red herring but potentially a clue to earlier generations:

Thomas Ayscough was born ABT 1735 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire
Elizabeth Ayscough was born ABT 1737 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire
John Ayscough was born ABT 1738 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire
Frances Ayscough was born ABT 1740 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire
Prudence Ayscough was born ABT 1740 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire
Catherina Ayscough was born ABT 1741 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire and died 1743 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire
William Ayscough was born ABT 1743 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire
George Ayscough was born ABT 1745 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire and died 1763 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire
Richard Ayscough was born ABT 1747 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire
Anne Ayscough was born ABT 1750 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire and died Feb 1751 in Little Ponton, Lincolnshire

Frances 1740 ties into one of my direct lines through marriage and also the Blagg family of Car Colston. I think through her explains why I have a few Frances entries from the late 1700's through to the latter part of the 1800's.
