Thomas Davies
« on: Monday 28 January 19 20:59 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help please, I may be mixing two families here.
1911 census shows family in Newbridge, Mon. says Thomas is 51, born Aberdare, Glam and wife Jane born Beaufort, Brecs (this census is a bit of a mess, I think birth places of Tom and Jane are mixed up?)

1901 says they are in Blaenblodau street, Newbridge.
RG13/4968/p14

1891 says Tom born Aberavon?
Rg12/4423/137/p38

1881 census says Thomas born Kindle, Monmouth(shire) Where is that? Could it be near Beaufort?
RG11/5303/p5
On this census they are 'visiting' what could be Tom's brother and his wife, any ideas on wife's name?

Thanks for any help

For a start~

Wife/sister in law looks like Chrine - could it be short for Christine?

Hi hencarrai
the wikipedia page for Beaufort, says the Welsh name is Cendl - maybe your 1881 Kindle?

Here is a link

Do you have birth cert for any of the children? If Jane's maiden name was James, think I've found possible registrations with that maiden name, then the parish record of the couple's marriage is available online.

15 Dec 1879 in the parish church of Ystradyfodwg, Thomas Davies 19, haulier, of Pentre father William, collier, deceased
 married
Jane James 18 of Pentre, father David, collier
Witnesses Rees and Margaret Jones, all made their mark.

Lincs: Coupland, Cram
Mon: Cram, Gwyn, John, Philpot, Smart, Watkins
Pembs: Edwards (St. Dogmael's)

Thanks all, you guys are awesome.
Gadget, now that you've opened my eyes to Christine I'm convincing myself it's written as Chrisie.
Would you believe FBMD has two possible marriages :-Wm Davies  and Christiana Jane Harvey 1875 Jun 11a p 766.
And Christina Hartley 1876 Dec 11a p 910.

Mar, that's a good find, must be right?

Osprey,
No birth certs yet but the marriage in 1879 is surely correct. Father being William has thrown me though, I was working on Thomas.

I think I have the GRO index for son Evan T 1885 Pontypridd 11a p482

well, it's not Christiana Jane Harvey as she married Richard Hancock Isaac 7 June 1875 at St Mary's in Swansea.
Christina Hartley did marry a William Davies 13 Nov 1876 at St Peter's in Swansea, but that William was a joiner and son of David, a sailor. Both were 22 which doesn't match with the ages on the 1881 census.

not necessarily!  I think Chrine is actually Catherine, this family in 1891 seems a match
52 Parry St, Ystradyfodwg RG12/4424 folio 71 pg 36
William Davies head mar 33 haulier in coal mine b. Merthyr Tydfil
Catherine wife 28 b. Dowlais
Moses son 6
Elizabeth dau 4
William J son 2
children all born Ystradyfodwg

GRO index has mother's maiden name on the reg of Moses as Evans and the marriage mar qtr 1880 in the parish church of Ystradyfodwg for
William Davies 22 haulier father William Davies, collier, deceased
to
Catherine Evans 17 father Moses Evans, roller
witnesses William Davies & Richard Evans, only Catherine signed, the other 3 marked.

So William could be a brother of your Thomas.
