step has been added in front of son on both lines but possibly not in the same hand. I suspect ages of William & Thomas were put up a little as Thomas, at least, was probably too young to have been working underground.

Hi Osprey, I now have a birth record for Thomas Davies, 30 Aug 1861.
Parents William and Ruth (formerly Jones) of River Row, Beaufort.
That looks good to me, thanks again.

At the marriage of Ruth Davies, (father Edward Jones) and James Jones in 1869, it shows his father as John Thomas. I wondered if you have any thoughts on that?

as James Jones doesn't appear on the census with the family, he was married to Ruth for a very short time, I have no idea where he was born so tracing his birth is nigh on impossible. It could be that he was illegitimate or he came from an area where patronymics were still in use and his surname had changed from Johns.

Guesswork I'm sorry...
