Hi All

Can anyone help with finding the burial site of Mr Louis Bilton who was a china painter-Artist.

He was born about 1860 in Stoke on Trent.

Death 14 NOV 1937 • Sidbury, Devon, England aged 78 years

Reg Dec 1937
District of Honiton
Devon County Vol 5b page 11

He had a cousin who was very close to him named Anne L Wolfe.

I would love to find where he is buried and if he has a headstone.

I would also like to find out if he had probate.

Any help would be so appreciated

Tim

It's a long shot but his Will might show a burial place request.  I found such a request in my 2xgt.aunt's Will.

You can buy a copy for £10 from this site:  https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills

Hi nanny jan

Thank you so much for the information and the attachment for the will request site.
I found out he may have died in Sidmouth Devon.

Thanks again,  I am sure he was buried but there are so many Cemeteries in Devon. He may have had a obituary in the paper which may also say where he was buried but I don't have access to the UK papers.

Kind regards
Tim

Hi nattai,
Are you sure that you have the right Louis Bilton in Devon? One source suggests that he died in 1910.  https://maas.museum/inside-the-collection/2012/10/03/rare-doulton-desert-plate-painted-by-louis-bilton-with-australian-wildflowers/

Hi solidrock

He did not die in 1910 that source is incorrect, and a lot of articles have his death us unknown.

I am looking for the burial site  for the Louis Bilton, artist and painter of Australian wild flower for Doulton.

My Louis Bilton defiantly died on the 14 November 1937, of the Saint Clair Malden Estate Sidford Sidbury Devonshire. He left his estate to his cousin Anne Louise Wolfe, who was a spinster.

He left a very large estate of some 5172 pounds so one would think he had a nice headstone. I just hope his cousin buried him nicely with a large headstone ... but trying to find his grave is a puzzle.

also thank you so much for the attachments to web pages.

kind regards
Tim

Seems strange that there's no records apart from the death of him being in Devon. Maybe he was cremated or buried with relatives.

Hi solidrock

Yes it is strange, I do know there is a death notice for him in the Evening Review newspaper, East London, Ohio USA, sat Nov 27th 1937 page 3. This is due to him living there with his cousin Anne Louise Wolfe from 1925-1930. However I can not view the whole article in that paper.

I don't think he was cremated but yes he may have been buried with family in another county, I have just gone off for a copy of his will, through the site you sent me.

Do you know how I can get a copy of his full probate file ?

Kind regards
Tim
