Hi Rob, Is there some reason that you have posted this photo in PDF format instead of the usual Jpeg format. I'm afraid I cannot convert this to Jpeg to restore it.

Hi Pat

I've had to make it slightly smaller but here it is.

Hi Gadget, Thanks for that,  for some reason I can't convert this on my computer. I'm not technically minded enough.  ;) I will have a go at restoring this now.

'Restoration needed' indeed  ;D This was a real challenge to do.

Anyhow here is what I've got so far... there are a still a few scratches here and there that I need to clean up, and I'm thinking of playing around with the brightness/contrast a bit more since a darker contrast seems to have unintentionally aged him a bit (made his features a bit too sharp, especially around the eyes - which is luckily a pretty easy fix), but my enthusiasm was beginning to wane and I just wanted to get something posted.

As for the jaw - I did try and recreate it - but my god. It was giving me serious uncanny valley vibes (I tried. I really did. But it just wasn't happening). Usually in such a scenario I'd borrow a feature from someone elses face (in this case I'd overlay another jaw-line) - but since this is a family photo... doing that felt kinda wrong to do, since you wouldn't really be looking at the same person. So with that being said I've decided to accept just one imperfection and leave it...

Here's a quick (and unfinished) version.  It still needs work, but it's getting toward bedtime so I'll try more tomorrow.  I'm going to play with color too, but won't guarantee ANYTHING!  ;)

Hi John. that is an excellent  restoration (or start of one) it will be very interesting to see the finished version.  I do hope you manage some colour.
