John Byrne born circa 1842 Ireland

Hi all. I have John Byrne on 1861 census aged 20, soldier born Dublin, listed with 2nd battalion, 19th regiment in Portsmouth, Hampshire. I have him married to Elizabeth Rogers in 1879 and 1881 census lists him as Army Pensioner, aged 40. Ideas please on where to look for the intervening period and any service records. Thanks

On Findmypast there  are several lots of military records for men named John BYRNE  born born Dublin, one of them looks like your man, his number was 515.

In 1871 he is still with his battalion,  now in Calcutta.  (Man Jebber found)
