Would it be possible to post a complete image? The right side is not complete. The last word could be "detachment" (on detachment), and there is definitely the stroke of a letter after "flying"...

I was about to have a go at this, then read the previous posts and realised that there's nothing left to do!  Shanreagh's explanation of 'flying of the chest' was the final piece of the puzzle

I'll go and make myself useful elsewhere for now

I believe 'discovered by flying' should read 'succeeded by flying' meaning that he caught cold and then developed the chest problems.
