Henry Franklin & Ferdinand Braith - Philadelphia - post 1860 US Census
« on: Wednesday 30 January 19 01:04 GMT (UK) »
Seeking information on Henry Franklin and Ferdinard Braith.

Both appear in the 1860 U.S. Census living with Charles Franklin (shoemaker), his wife Pauline, and their children Hannah, Charles, and Edward.  The family is listed as immigrants from Saxony, Germany.

Henry Franklin (probably the brother of Charles) is listed as 27.
Ferdinard Braith (relationship unknows) is listed as 16.

Additional 1870 information for Ferdinand Brodt

Ferdinand, born in Hesse Darnstadt, and is a US male citizen over age 21
wife: born in Wurtenburg, I think

so his 1900 census saying arrived 1868 cannot be correct, or there are two men by this name. You had to wait longer than that to become a citizen. Of the two, I would bet on the 1870 information being correct.
Besides, he is here in 1860, come to think of it.

----------
This may be Ferdinand Brodt's passenger record. if so, page back and forth through the Brodt cards for his family. his card says accompanied by family. His mother, I think, is the card before his, a sister and an aunt maybe before her. I stopped there and didn't look forward.

--------
Not much showing on Henry Franklin, that I can find.

Bit of a long shot but would it be worth checking with the cemetery where Charles Franklin, his wife and son are also buried to see if Henry Franklin is also buried there.  ???

FIND A GRAVE

Charles Franklin - 1825 - passed away 14 May 1884 (aged 5859)

burial -    Greenwood Cemetery Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
Plot Section M - 1- 106

Charles is buried in Greenwood Cemetery with his seven year old granddaughter Mary Glasenapp.  No other people are in his plot.

Greenwood cemetery was abandoned for decades and fell into serious disrepair.  It has recently been taken over by new management with an ongoing effort at restoration.  When I last checked with the staff his section of the cemetery was not open for visitors due to safety concerns.

I did see some records for a Henry Franklin that pertained to the American Civil War and a Pennsylvania Regiment.  I have not been able to determine if this is the same Henry or not.
